Start with one reason to go

Kelingking is one of Nusa Penida’s best-known coastal landscapes. Its headland and the sea below make a strong starting point for an island itinerary. But an attractive photograph is only one part of a day out: getting there, finding a comfortable place to stop and deciding how much walking suits you matter just as much. Choose the experience you most want, then build the rest of the day around it.

Leave room between the stops

Rather than collecting every viewpoint, select a small group of places and discuss the route with your local provider. Ask how road transfers fit around your arrival and departure, where you can have a relaxed meal and what happens if conditions change. A route with some breathing space gives you more freedom to linger when a place feels worth your attention. Keep a little time unassigned instead of filling every gap on the map.
